Student Success & Student Support

Basic Needs & Well-Being

The Basic Needs Initiative takes a holistic look at students’ well-being both inside and outside of the classroom, from housing and food security to mental health. Chartwells will uphold our social responsibility and work with each campus to find ways to support students on their path to graduation.

In partnership with each university, we explore solutions to aid students through meal plan support, stewarding a Cal-Fresh relationship, on-campus food pantry support, an eatable food recovery network, and student education.

Student Success Internships

Our Student Success Internship Program is an opportunity for Chartwells to support students beyond the plate and extend their learning outside of the classroom. We are committed to guiding students through their academic journey and providing them with internship opportunities in a variety of concentrations from marketing and finance to sustainability, hospitality, and more.

Through a hands-on approach to learning, students will gain real-world experience in their internship and benefit from a variety of resources that help them build their resume, improve on core competencies, and ultimately guide them down their career path. Our student success internships lead to both opportunities for growth throughout our company and becoming more marketable overall, as students are 2x more likely to find a career after completing a paid internship.

Student Employment

Chartwells wants and needs to hire dedicated, enthusiastic students to work in all levels of our dining services program, and we seek to promote them into student manager positions and retain them upon graduation as full-time managers. Our goal is to develop student leaders into effective representatives of Chartwells and provide them with opportunities to build their leadership skills and jump-start their career. We look for engaged students that have a can-do attitude and an appetite for success, as we value their high-energy, productivity and close connection to the campus community. We invest in our student associates the same way we invest in our full-time staff with the same resources, training and guidance which cultivates growth and shapes future leaders.

Student Engagement & Wellbeing

We take a “whole body” approach to serving students, faculty, and staff. Tapping into your campus pride, our engagement strategy ensures that beyond delicious food, student wellbeing is supported with key mental health and community-building activities throughout the year. Our priorities include creating partnerships with campus departments and student organizations to foster a welcoming, inclusive, student-focused program. In addition to our robust engagement calendar, we set customized goals in support of campus initiatives and priorities.

Tapping into industry-leading best practices, we introduce programming that fuels the future and host innovative and trending events to increase engagement and ensure that the dining experience is central to the student’s academic journey
